The KCWC...23 years and still paddling!

The Kansas City Whitewater Club was established around 1985 by a group of local paddling enthusiasts interested in sharing their skills and adventures with other paddlers.  In 1999, the KCWC was incorporated as a not-for-profit entity.  The club has grown to over 100 members and offers instruction, river trips, kayak polo, program meetings, parties, pool slalom competitions, and pool practice sessions as the backbone of its identity.   You will see we have a serious dedication to the paddling world but we also have a sense of humor.  If extending your paddling opportunities is on your agenda, then we invite you to join our band of happy paddlers!

This kayaking snowman was getting ready to run the Saint Francis River near Fredericktown, Missouri.

He was created in March, 1999 when the area received 12 inches of snow overnight, leaving boaters attending a racing clinic hosted by the Misosuri Whitewater Association stranded at a church camp until snow plows arrived.  Boaters from the Kansas City Whitewater Club who attended this clinic were Roy Dickerson, Bob Behrends,  Terry and Ian Smith, and Harold and Mary Ryan.  Clinic instructors were Max Wellhouse and Mark Poindexter, former Olympic C-2 alternate.

The Kansas City Whitewater Club is an ACA Paddle America Club (PAC).  KCWC members can join the ACA at a reduced yearly membership rate which allows members to participate in ACA sanctioned events at no additional cost.  The ACA is dedicated to teaching people how to safely handle canoes and kayaks and certifies paddlers to become canoe, kayak, and swiftwater rescue instructors.
